K-12 English / Language Arts Mission Statement
The mission of the K-12 English Language Arts Office is to provide instructional leadership in English/Language Arts that supports district school communities in preparing students for college and career. We collaborate with teachers and other stakeholders to build their capacity to respond to student needs by providing standards-based curriculum documents and assessments and professional development in effective research-based literacy strategies, so that all students graduate with the requisite communication skills to become contributing members of society.
K-12 English / Language Arts Vision Statement
We believe that providing every student with a rigorous curriculum designed to advance students through the grades and master the Common Core State Standards in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language will prepare them for the complexities and increasing demands of the 21st Century. From Kindergarten through grade 12, students will increasingly:

- build strong content knowledge
- respond to the varying demands of audience, task, purpose, and discipline
- comprehend as well as critique
- value evidence
- use technology and digital media strategically and capably

History
History/Social Science Mission Statement
The mission of the History Office is to provide curriculum, assessments, coaching, professional development and resources to history educators in LBUSD in order to serve students, parents, families and the community. History educators provide all students with access to rigorous course work when asking students to actively participate in collaborative, inquiry-based history lessons and projects. Students engage in critical thinking, as well as, understand the major themes, patterns of human interaction, concepts, significant events, turning points, and people shaping history.

History education prepares students for college and careers through the application of historical thinking and literacy skills, aligned to the History-Social Science Content Standards for California Public Schools and the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects (CCSS).

Math
Mathematics Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Mathematics is to promote the success of all students by building the capacity of administrators, teachers, parents, and support personnel. We are a service-oriented department that provides professional development, curriculum support, and instructional resources. We address data-driven needs, the superintendent's goals, and research-based best practices through collaboration, communication and reflection among all stakeholders including district personnel, institutes of higher-education, and our community.

Science
Science Mission Statement
Allowing students to participate in the pursuit and application of science in the classroom helps strengthen their understanding of their world. Science generates discussion and prompts students to focus their natural curiosity to generate solutions to everyday problems. Science helps to amplify students' unique voices and highlights how their individual cultures, backgrounds and communities help them in making sense of the world. Sharing those ideas helps them both better understand themselves and each other. We firmly believe that Scientific Education is a vehicle for developing and strengthening reasoning, math, literacy, writing and verbal communication skills. The Science Curriculum Office purpose is to aid teachers, administrators, parents and support personnel in tapping into the natural curiosity all students have to understand their world and how it works. Our office provides researched-based professional development aimed at increasing the effectiveness of science instruction, curricular materials, and other instructional resources so that our students are empowered as independent critical thinkers and problem solvers.

Our mission, as defined by the California State Framework for Physical Education, is to develop a physically educated person who has mastered the necessary movement skills to participate confidently in many different forms of physical activity, values physical fitness, and understands that both are intimately related to health and well-being.
Physical Education Vision Statement
We believe the quality and productivity of each individuals life is enhanced through participation in a comprehensive physical education program that promotes the optimal growth and development in their physical, mental, emotional, and social well being. A developmentally appropriate physical education program empowers students to make wise choices, meet challenges, and exhibit positive behaviors in lifelong fitness and movement activity.
